Straight line art exercise 2

Introduction.

The purpose of this exercise is to produce straight line art using a compass to divide a circle into segments. It shows the relationship between the diameter and the circumference of the circle.

Materials.

Paper square.
Coloured pencils.
Compass.
Straight edge.

Method.

Use the compass to draw a circle. Keep the compass on the same setting and put the point on the circumference of the circle. Mark a point on the circumference with the compass pencil. Continue to mark points to get six equal segments.

Measure half of the radius and set the compass to this. Use it to further divide the circumference giving a total of twelve points.

Fold the sheet to the other corner and unfold it

Use coloured pencils and a straight edge to join the points on the circle. Here are some examples of the patterns that can be produced.
